Winners of the Nova design award to exhibit at Formex

Press release -

Winners of the Nova design award to exhibit at Formex

The inaugural winners of Formex's new Nova design award – Hanna Hedman and Simon Klenell – will feature at the exhibition with a display in the entrance hall. This display is part of the prize, which will be awarded annually in connection with the autumn Formex exhibition. Gallery Pascale in Stockholm will also host an exhibition of the award-winners' work for the general public to view.

Hanna Hedman will be displaying selected pieces of art jewellery from 2008 to 2011 at Formex, together with a catalogue of images from all her collections. The exhibition at Gallery Pascale will also feature pieces from her very latest collection "While they await extinction" 2011, which she has continued to develop after receiving the Nova award from Formex.

"The prize money has helped me to develop my latest collection, including my collaboration with photographer Sanna Lindberg. During the spring Sanna and I will also be photographing my new collection on human models in order to build on our storytelling in pictures," explains Hanna.

Simon Klenell has chosen to show the process of development of a wine glass for own production. The display shows background materials and his sources of inspiration.

"Since receiving the award I have worked on a number of different projects. I produced a separate exhibition held last autumn at Galleri Inger Molin. Elements of this will be on display at Gallery Pascale.
With the help of the prize money I have also developed a new wine glass that I will be presenting during Formex," says Simon.

Justification for selection of Hanna Hedman and Simon Klenell as winners was as follows:

"We should perhaps point out that we decided to award the prize to two young designers who combine skilled craftsmanship with personal artistic idiom completely in keeping with the spirit of the times …
To Hanna Hedman – for her exciting, personal and headstrong artistic idiom with strong emotional expression.
To Simon Klenell – for the breadth he shows in his designing, with, on the one hand, user-friendly objects and, on the other, unusual and personal objets d'art."

The 2011 jury consisted of Kerstin Wickman, Professor in Design and Handicraft History at Konstfack, Lotta Lewenhaupt, journalist, Gunilla Allard, designer, Pascale Cottard-Olsson, Gallery Pascale, Hanna Nova Beatrice, Editor-in-Chief at Plaza Interiör, and Chicie Lindgren, Formex project manager.

The prize consists of two parallel exhibitions in January, one at Formex and one at Gallery Pascale, where the public will also have the opportunity to view and purchase the winners' products. The winners also receive from the award partners a spread in Plaza Interiör and an activity up to a value of SEK 30,000/winner.
