Press release -

Crowdfunding Will Fix Potholes and Make Roads Safer

Street Repairs an intuitive road and street fault reporting website has recently launched a crowd funding initiative to help make UK roads safer. The owner and software developer Colin Mahoney decided to reach out to the public after realising sentiment was high regarding road safety and additional motoring costs such as repairs to tyres, suspension and on occasion injury.

Colin stated “we have been live testing our platform over the past year and we have had a great response. We believe that with the right support it can make a real difference to UK road safety. Now we want to shout out from the rooftops. Crowdfunding seemed the logical choice as many of our thousands of followers on social media wanted the free system to be accessed by everybody”

The Street Repairs website can identify road and community defects in real time be either accessing their website or by downloading a free mobile phone application. Up to three photos can be uploaded to a centralised database. The smart technology then identifies if the defect comes under either a local authority’s jurisdiction or the Highways agency jurisdiction and provides a detailed report with all the information for them to act swiftly. The website then tracks the authority’s performance which is available for anyone to view.

Cycling clubs, motorcycling organisations, motoring organisations, insurance companies and road safety campaigners can also become involved by requesting their free API.

The informative website allows the public to report not just potholes, but also pavement defects, street lighting problems, road sign issues plus many other defects in real time. Users of the system can then track their report which provides updates via text and email. This provides real time transparency for all users but more importantly and best of all, it’s free to use.

Potholes especially, have become a major nuisance to road users recently especially to many cyclists and motorcyclists and this technology allows them to now do something about it.

You can help keep your neighbourhood safe, clean and inviting, by reporting any maintenance problems you notice to your local council. In the past it has been difficult and time consuming to make a report, with residents needing to track down the correct department, follow the right procedure or even identifying the correct location of the defect. Trying to follow a reported fault can also be tedious, with Street Repairs it’s easy to follow your report as we keep you updated with regular text messages and emails. Our systems will identify your location, find the right council and keep you posted on progress.

Street Repairs makes the whole process much easier, by providing one website through which residents can submit any problem, to any local council anywhere, any time. Smartphone technology has allowed residents to report problems in real time. You can attach photographs and give a detailed description whilst out and about. Basically we have handed street fault reporting power over to you the public.

Once the problem is reported, our work is only just beginning. We try to work with councils to help them prioritise the works that need carrying out which assists in managing their maintenance budgets. We also encourage and closely monitor their progress and follow up on all cases submitted via the Street Repairs. Progress updates from the council are regularly requested to ensure a satisfactory outcome for local residents and the council.

Street Repairs is committed to making it as easy as possible for local people to report local problems to their local council. We then try to work with the council to get these issues resolved, while keeping the original informant up-to-date with the progress being made.
