G-Loot partners with KRAFTON for a $50,000 PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS tournament

[Stockholm, Sweden] Swedish esports platform, G-Loot, has announced that it has partnered with KRAFTON, Inc. for its $50,000 Season 5 tournament in PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. The announcement follows a major update to G-Loot last year, which saw its tournament platform, GLL, merged into the main product.
The tournament will take place in 3 stages—Qualifiers, Super Week, and Grand Finals—and will run from February 16 to March 13. The final stages will be broadcast live from Stockholm with a team of casters and analysts.
“It has been a difficult time for everyone, but esports is still going strong," said Simon Sundén, G-Loot’s Vice President & Head of Esports. “This will be the first major tournament to operate under the G-Loot brand, but it will still be very much in line with what fans have come to expect from previous GLL seasons & Grand Slam. This will be the 5th edition of a major PUBG Esports tournament series in co-operation with KRAFTON, and we’re excited to be working with them again.”
In recent news, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS transitioned into a Free-2-Play model on January 12. Immediately after the transition, the game was top-ranked on Steam, and in the week following, the title saw a 486% increase in new players. The tournament organizers hope this will encourage more players to try their hand at competing.
“Part of what makes G-Loot special is that we want to open esports up to a wider audience,” said Simon Sundén. “Our hope is that this season will see even more new teams playing. We’ve seen a lot of players starting their journey in our seasons who have eventually gone on to win and become pros. There have been true underdog success stories over the years, and we love that.”
The tournament is part of a more extensive ecosystem of competitions on both G-Loot and in the PUBG Esports scene. Teams who perform well in the tournament will earn PGC points, qualifying them for the PUBG Continental Series in November.
