Baritone Waltteri Torikka invited as the first ever Finnish singer to the Emmerich Smola Förderpreis

Waltteri Torikka is invited as the first ever Finnish singer and second Nordic singer to the Emmerich Smola Förderpreis TV-event in Germany!

The Emmerich Smola Förderpreis is a song competition highly recognized in Germany. The singers will be accompanied by Deutsche Radio Philharmonie under direction of Enrico Delamboye. The winners of the competition - one male and one female singer - will get each 10.000 Euro. 

The competition is held on 25th of January, 2014 at 19.00 in der Jugendstil-Festhalle Landau/Pf. (Karlsruhe)

Concerts and documentation of the competition will be broadcasted on TV (SWR Fernsehen/ 3sat -Germany/Austria/Switzerland) and on internet (sonostream.tv).

Waltteri Torikka is quickly establishing himself as one of the most promising opera talents of his generation in Finland. He has performed with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta and Camerata Salzburg and worked with conductors such as Mikko Franck, Michael Boder, Ville Matvejeff, Louis Langrée and Esa-Pekka Salonen.

Recent highlights include “Melot” in Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” at Helsinki Festival 2012 (Esa-Pekka Salonen/Peter Sellars/Bill Viola production) and Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm.

Torikka will sing his debute at the Savonlinna Operafestival in 2014 in ”Madama Butterfly” and ”Carmen”. He is the artistic director for a new comissioned work, the life of nobelist in literature F.E.Sillanpää, which will be premiered in 2015 in Finland.
