Svenskt Tenn goes black in autumn exhibition

Autumn gloom has found its way into the Svenskt Tenn store in Stockholm, where the new exhibition features dark interiors throughout. Patterned black textiles and dark furniture by Josef Frank are displayed together with the season’s premier addition to the range: the Dagg vase by Carina Seth Andersson, in solid black colour.

Two decades ago, Svenskt Tenn presented an all-white exhibition. Now it is time for its antithesis, a black exhibition named after the classic Josef Frank print “Three islands in the Black Sea”. All objects go in dark tones and walls are covered by Svenskt Tenn’s black linen cloth. From three large lightboxes, cold light emerges to distinguish the furniture’s silhouettes from the dark surrounding.

“Our Black exhibition mirrors the White exhibition of 1997, which was recognized for displaying Svenskt Tenn interiors in a plain context, so fashionable at that time,” says Thommy Bindefeld, Marketing Director at Svenskt Tenn. “This exhibition is defined by darkness and contrasts, which produces a different experience of patterns and furniture.”

In conjunction with the exhibition, the popular Dagg vase, designed by Carina Seth Andersson, becomes available in a new, pitch-black colour. Dagg became an instant success when introduced in 2009 as part of a series which also included the Stubbe and Kotte vases. Dagg is previously available in pink, brown, blue and clear glass, and its popularity has enabled the Skrufs glassworks in Småland to hire more glassblowers, whose craftsmanship is really put to the test when manufacturing Dagg in black.

“The shape of the Dagg vase requires tremendous precision by the glassblower,” says Thommy Bindefeld. “The solid black colour, which adds a sculptural expression to the vase, makes the manufacturing process even more complex. This is a fantastic demonstration piece for skilled Swedish craftsmanship.”

The black Dagg vase is available in the store in Stockholm, and online, priced SEK 3,800.
