This year’s Easter at Svenskt Tenn – inspired by Mille Fleurs

From March 3rd, Svenskt Tenn makes room for Easter in the store and on the web. This year, the holiday decorations are inspired by Josef Frank’s early Mille Fleurs print, resulting in the new Serpentin collection, designed by Natasia Wadsted, and consisting of hand-painted glass eggs, tablecloths and napkins.

The theme of this year’s Easter at Svenskt Tenn is based on Josef Frank’s spring-like Mille Fleurs print. Josef Frank designed the Tulipan print, which was the model for Mille Fleurs, back in the 1920s for his company Haus und Garten. In order to adapt the print to the new printing technology that arrived in the 1940s, the print evolved from being rotated to having a rectangular structure in the fabric rapport. The new print, which was also given a different colour scheme, was renamed Mille Fleurs, the French translation of Thousand Flowers or the Swedish, Tusen Blommor. The pattern was previously available in Svenskt Tenn’s cotton range and Mille Fleurs will be back in time for Easter 2022 – made from the finest linen.

For this year’s Easter, Svenskt Tenn commissioned the young designer Natasia Wadsted to design the new Easter decorations. The collaboration resulted in the Serpentine (Serpentin) collection, which consists of hand-painted and hand-blown Easter eggs in glass, tablecloths and napkins.

“I let the shape of the egg lead me to the pattern, which reminds me of classic serpentines at children’s parties, and that’s how the collection got its name,” says designer Natasia Wadsted.

“We discovered Natasia Wadsted through her graduation exhibition at Konstfack, University of Arts, Crafts and Design where we saw examples of how she dares to work with colour in her designs,” says Thommy Bindefeld, Marketing and Creative Director at Svenskt Tenn.

Natasia Wadsted is a trained interior architect and designer from Konstfack, University of Arts, Crafts and Design. Alongside her studies, she started working part-time at Svenskt Tenn’s Textile department.

“I am at the beginning of my career as a designer. I really like Svenskt Tenn and have been working here part-time for almost six years. I feel both grateful for the opportunity and proud to have designed my first products for the store,” says Wadsted.
