Swedavia and Umeå Airport have long been working on issues relating to the environment and sustainability, with the aim of achieving totally carbon dioxide-free operations by the year 2020. Umeå Municipality needs to meet environmental quality standards and also manage a continued high rate of growth, with expansion taking the form above all of a more densely populated city. This has resulted in a unique partnership with Hybricon. Under the eyes of almost one million passengers who travel to and from Umeå Airport, the opportunity is now being offered to travel to and from the airport with the ultra fast-charging electric bus. The electric bus is charged through Europe’s most powerful charging station, which is located just outside the arrivals hall.
The charging station has an output of 300 kW, expandable to 400 kW, which is 6–8 times bigger than
the fast-charging stations for cars that are now starting to appear in Sweden. This makes it possible to run
Umeå’s airport bus routes with clean, quiet buses and paves the way for a broader introduction of electric
buses in Umeå.
We are delighted to invite you to a press gathering on 5 June at Umeå Airport
starting 11.15. We will of course take the electric bus there and back.
Programme:
10.45 Bus from Vasaplan, platform O, to Umeå Airport
11.15 Press information in the Cargo Bay conference room (meet in check-in hall)
12.00 Official opening of the ultra fast-charging electric airport bus
12.30 Lunch for those who wish
13.15 Bus returns to Vasaplan
