The BLACk IRIS project, led by Swedavia and financed by the Swedish Traffic Authority, has been named one of Sweden's top innovation projects by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, IVA. The project will simplify the development towards more efficient flights to the airports, so-called curved flights, which contributes to a reduced climate impact.
Swedavia is continuing its development of the airports of the future and is planning a new hotel at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and at Kiruna Airport.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport is currently in a major development phase. Early this summer, the first part of the new Marketplace will be finished, together with a new security checkpoint. A number of new shops and restaurants will also open. Among the new additions at Arlanda are a new 7-Eleven with a new concept and as many as five new Pressbyrån convenience stores.
In late March, American Express will temporarily close the Amex Lounge by Pontus at Stockholm Arlanda Airport to carry out an extensive renovation of its lounge space. The refurbishment work is expected to continue until 2024, when the doors to a brand-new Amex Lounge will open. During the renovation, members are invited to the Amex Pop-Up Lounge.
Preparations for the new Marketplace at Stockholm Arlanda Airport are in full swing. An impressive construction made of laminated timber forms the framework of an extension with a Nordic feel, which will be one of the new features to characterise the airport and house many of the approximately 30 new food concepts in the new Marketplace.
Norwegian will open its base for cabin crew again at Arlanda and the new employees will become the first crew based in Sweden that Norwegian has had since the pandemic started in 2020.
Thai Airways sees increased demand and restarts traffic at Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Phuket for the winter season. At the same time, they are increasing the number of departures to the capital Bangkok.
