New direct route from Malmö to the beautiful weekend destination of Ohrid, Macedonia

The carrier Wizz Air is launching its latest direct route, which will operate twice weekly between Malmö Airport and the city of Ohrid, with its lovely lakeside location, in the Republic of Macedonia. The new air link will debut on March 18, 2019, and then operate on Mondays and Fridays with an Airbus A320.

Wizz Air’s new direct route to Ohrid in the Mediterranean region is a perfect weekend destination. The city, one of the most popular sites to visit in Macedonia, is located on Lake Ohrid, which connects Albania and Macedonia. It is just over an hour by car from Ohrid to Greece.

“It is good news that Wizz Air is establishing another direct route from Malmö Airport. Ohrid has potential to become a popular weekend destination for families in the region. The air link makes travel easier for the approximately 20,000 Scanians with Macedonian roots who now have a convenient way to visit friends and family,” said Peter Weindhandl, Airport Director at Malmö Airport.

“We are happy to expand our Northern-European network by connecting Malmö with one of the most wonderful cities in the Mediterranean area. Our newest route now connects Malmö with Ohrid, Macedonia, the marvellous lake-side city next to the Albanian border. It is a perfect destination for a weekend break or even for a longer trip, offering a relaxing atmosphere,” said András Radó, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air.

Wizz Air established its first route from Malmö Airport in 2004 and now offers twelve direct routes, including the new route to Vienna, which will be launched in February. The airline already offers service between Malmö and Skopje, the capital of Macedonia, with four weekly departures.
