New terminal section at Göteborg Landvetter has now been officially inaugurated

Business leaders, political officials and representatives of government agencies and the aviation industry met on Friday 3rd of February at Göteborg Landvetter Airport under the scope of the regularly held TakeOff event. In conjunction, the airport’s new terminal section, the largest expansion in the airport’s history to date, was inaugurated.

After a pause of several years, the popular TakeOff event was resumed and took place today at Göteborg Landvetter Airport with some 120 participants in attendance. Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia’s president and CEO, and Anna Strömwall, the airport director, welcomed participants to an informative seminar focused on the climate transition, the air travel of the future and connectivity with the rest of the world.

The event was held in the new section of the airport’s terminal, which was placed in service in the summer of 2020. The new terminal section is 200 metres long and adds as much as 18,500 square metres of space. It was finally officially opened today.

“I am really pleased that we have finally inaugurated the new terminal properly and at the same time resumed our TakeOff meetings after a pause of several years. It feels important to both spotlight our new terminal and talk together about how we future-proof air travel,” says Anna Strömwall, airport director of Göteborg Landvetter Airport at Swedavia.

“We can once again have a positive outlook for the future, and the new terminal has enabled the increased air traffic and destination development that we have seen, and see ahead of us. The new terminal section, which separates arriving and departing non-Schengen passengers, has been an essential requirement for attracting more international airlines and routes to our airport,” adds Anna Strömwall.

These efforts have produced results. On April 28, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will launch a new and long-desired direct route to New York, an important addition for regional trade and tourism.

“There are strong links between Sweden and the US, and New York has long been high on the Gothenburg region’s wish list of new direct routes from Göteborg Landvetter,” notes Anna Strömwall.

The announcement of new non-stop service to this metropolis on the US east coast was met with applause during the TakeOff event. The ceremonial ribbon to the new terminal section was also finally cut, which Anna Strömwall did with great aplomb with Swedavia’s president and CEO, Jonas Abrahamsson, by her side amid great cheers, applause and happy faces.
