Passenger record for Swedavia in 2017

Swedavia’s ten airports set a new record of 41,924,000 passengers, which is a six per cent increase compared to 2016.

Air travel to and from Swedavia’s airports was up six per cent in 2017, when nearly 42 million passengers flew to or from one of the Group’s ten airports. That is a new record and a six per cent increase compared to 2016.

“Air travel creates the conditions needed to enable people’s opportunities for meetings and experiences. The passenger increases in 2017 also show how important it is that we focus on our investment projects and continue to develop Sweden’s sustainable and efficient airports of the future,” says Jonas Abrahamsson, president and CEO of Swedavia.

New passenger records were set at seven of Swedavia’s ten airports during the full-year 2017. Stockholm Arlanda Airport set a new record with an eight per cent increase to 26,642,000 passengers (compared to 24,703,000 passengers in 2016). Göteborg Landvetter Airport set a new record with a six per cent increase from 6,376,000 passengers in 2016 to 6,760,000 passengers in 2017.

Passenger increases were also noted at Kiruna Airport, where passenger volume was up eight per cent to 280,000 passengers, at Visby Airport, which saw a six per cent increase to 491,000 passengers, and at Åre Östersund Airport, which reported a seven per cent increase to 531,000 passengers.

Overall, international travel rose eight per cent to 27,900,000 passengers, compared to 25,790,000 in 2016. Domestic travel rose two per cent, from 13,725,000 passengers in 2016 to 14,022,000 for the full-year 2017.

In December, 3,015,000 passengers flew to or from one of Swedavia’s airports.
