The Entire Country of Sweden is Now on Airbnb
In the northern parts of Europe, you have the freedom to roam in nature. It’s a principle protected by the law that allows you to sleep under the stars, walk in the forests and pick berries and mushrooms. You can do pretty much anything. The only important thing is that you pay respect to the nature and animals that live there.

In a way to show this amazing possibilities to the world, Sweden has now put its country and freedom to roam up on Airbnb. A service that allows you to rent someone’s property, but in this case it’s all for free! In Sweden this freedom is called “allemansrätten” or “everyman’s right” and allows anyone to roam the countryside of Sweden, with a few warnings. “You can camp or pick berries or hike everywhere, as long as you don’t come too close to houses or disturb fields or animals that are grazing,” said Jenny Kaiser, president of Sweden's tourism agency, Visit Sweden.
But this offer is not only for the Airbnb users. Since it’s a Swedish law, anyone can take the chance to explore the Swedish countryside. And don’t be closed off to only Sweden, its neighbours Denmark, Norway and Finland also have this law and right to roam since the middle ages.

In 1976, the State of California gave the public the right to stroll on its beaches, but in this case it applies to the whole country. And in order to make this new Airbnb ad even more effective, they also made a video where a man named “Åke”, speaks on behalf of the Swedish people, in a very “Swenglish” way, about his bathroom (the forest), the swimming pool (the lakes) and so on.
This ad also reminds us of the “Swedish number” ad of about a year ago, where you could call a number to just have a chat with or ask a question to a random Swede. Both are really creative and fun ways for the small country up north to get noticed. “We’re a small country, and we don’t have any big, iconic monuments like the Eiffel Tower or Big Ben” said Kaiser.

Sweden is a great country with a lot of beautiful nature, and most Swedish families really feel a connection with the nature. Many even have a tradition to go out picking berries or mushrooms, depending on the season. And going camping and exploring the nature is something that people almost take for granted.
So, to really experience this yourself, we suggest you to take your next adventure to the Swedish countryside and explore their infinity pools and sleeping under the stars. We promise you won’t forget it!
