Swedese Launches the Spin Lounge Table

Swedese's award-winning Spin stool now has a companion: the Spin lounge table. The table comes in a variety of colors and sizes, all with the same simple expression and innovative design language as its predecessor.

“The table feels like a natural evolution of the stool; they complement each other. It’s like seeing a family rather than a solitary piece,” says designer Staffan Holm.

The Spin family was created when Staffan Holm wanted to challenge technical difficulties in furniture craftsmanship. He managed to create a stool where the wood is bent in two directions. The legs follow the round shape of the seat and then curve gracefully downward toward the floor.

“Spin looks quite straightforward now, but it was challenging. People were in Swedese’s factory in their free time, trying to figure out how we could bend the stool’s legs.”

In 2011, the stool that appears to spin around itself was completed, and now it finally has a companion in the form of a table. Equally natural in its simplicity and just as complex to produce.

The Spin table is made from molded ash veneer and is available in two sizes and seven finishes, from natural lacquer to moss green. Several tables can be grouped as nesting tables, making them a great fit in front of most sofas and armchairs.

“If you have a large sofa, you can combine three or four tables and stools, or mix it with other tables. That’s the beauty of Spin: it has a strong form but is still a basic shape, so it pairs well with other styles.”

The Spin lounge table is available in two sizes: a larger table at 85 cm in diameter with a height of 45 cm, and a smaller table at 55 cm with two height options (38 cm and 52 cm). The tables come in colors like English red, Moss green, Nutmeg, white-stained, and black-stained finishes, as well as natural lacquered ash and white-pigmented lacquer.

Staffan Holm was born in 1977 and is a cabinetmaker and designer, educated at HDK/University of Gothenburg. He has won numerous awards, including the Nordic Design Prize in 2009, the Bruno Mathsson Prize in 2013, and was named Designer of the Year by Residence magazine in 2019. The Spin stool was awarded Sköna hem’s Furniture of the Year in 2011, nominated for the Golden Chair Award in 2011, and nominated for Svensk Form’s National Design Award in 2012.
