Today is the perfect opportunity for Europeans to start fighting the flab
Amsterdam, September 28, 2017 – WHO says Europe has the second highest proportion of overweight or obese people, ranking just behind the USA, with Eurostat saying some 51.6% of men and women over 18 years of age were overweight in 2014, a 6% rise from the 48.6% level in 2009.
And the young are at particular risk. Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO regional director for Europe, said that “despite sustained efforts to tackle childhood obesity, one in three adolescents is still estimated to be overweight or obese in Europe, with the highest rates found in southern European and Mediterranean countries."
