Press release -

Creative Space for sustainable ideas

The Absolut Company creates a venue for innovators with the aim of finding solutions that can contribute to a sustainable future. Old containers that previously carried Absolut Vodka are rebuilt into a creative hub to be filled with innovative ideas.

From the 12th to the 14th of June, 16 curious innovators will perform a hackathon to find new solutions to the environmental challenges that The Absolut Company faces in packaging. A "Creative Space" is to be built up of old containers previously used for the transport of Absolut Vodka in Liljeholmen, south of Stockholm and nearby The Absolut Company’s headquarter in Sweden.

During the three days, the innovators, represented by mostly designers, engineers and students, will work on challenges such as: how to minimise The Absolut Company’s environmental impact and how to get more people around the world to recycle their glass bottles.

They will also be working on finding solutions for reusing bottles by refilling and come up with creative new uses for the Absolut Vodka bottle. The innovators will work together with experts from The Absolut Company who may contribute with their knowledge and insights of the company.

“Sustainability is a given part of our operations and a challenge that we are facing every day. By inviting innovators to be co-creators in our process we are hoping to open up for new approaches and to challenge ourselves. Creative Space is also a great venue where the participants are given tools to elaborate new ideas, to learn more and to share experiences,” says Anna Schreil, Director Product Development, realization and R&D at The Absolut Company.

The participants will work together in four groups and when the hackathon is completed a jury will appoint a winning proposal. The ambition is to find a winning idea so good that it can be put into the actual production.

After the first hackathon is conducted, Creative Space will open up for innovators and others who are interested and want to participate in the challenge to create solutions for a more sustainable future. People who are interested in participating are to apply on www.absolutcreativespace.com. The site also offers the possibility of following the project Creative Space in real-time.
