Water sustainability in focus when The Absolut Company gathers in Åhus

Every year, the Pernod Ricard Group arranges ”Responsib'All Day” where all employees, over 18 000 worldwide, put their daily tasks aside to learn more about social responsibility, sustainability and responsible alcohol consumption. This year, The Absolut Company will meet in Åhus - where every drop of Absolut Vodka is produced. Here, a total of 500 employees will gather to educate themselves about the most important ingredient in Absolut Vodka – water.

- Åhus is the heart of Absolut Vodka and The Absolut Company. Absolut Vodka is largely composed of water and every drop of water in the millions of bottles shipped comes from Åhus. During ”Responsib'All Day” we want to increase our collective expertise on the importance of water and clean water, says Paula Eriksson, VP Corporate Communications at The Absolut Company

During ”Responsib'All Day” employees will, amongst other things, be educated at the Vattenriket Visitor Center – a visitor center by the Vattenriket protected wetland area in Skåne County - with the goal that all of the participants will become "water ambassadors" and learn more about water sustainability and the impact of water use.

Water is a priority and a big part of The Absolut Company's sustainability efforts. By continuously identifying the current situation, evaluating and acting thereafter, The Absolut Company is working towards reducing the water consumption at the distillery in Åhus. To this date, the distillery has achieved a 42 % reduction of the overall goal, set for 2020, to reduce The Absolut Company’s water footprint.

The Absolut Company continuously work towards optimizing the distillery process, and this autumn, yet another step will be taken when a new system is installed in Åhus. The new system will result in a more closed process that will further reduce the total use of water at the distillery.

Absolut Elyx, a premium brand within The Absolut Company, recently initiated a collaboration with the non-profit organization Water for People, another important sustainability project for The Absolut Company. The collaboration includes that every bottle of Elyx sold in the United States and in the UK, equals one week of clean water for people in need. The goal is to ensure that at least 100 000 people, today without access to a sustainable and safe water source, will have access to clean water, now and for future generations to come.
