The worlds first ship to use all-electric hybrid technology

Tillberg Design of Sweden designs all of Hurtigrutens new Rolls Royce expedition ships!

Hurtigruten has named its two new expedition ships after the Norwegian polar pioneers, MS Roald Amundsen and MS Fridtjof Nansen. These will be the first ships in the world that use all-electric hybrid technology.

“On December 14th, it will be exactly 105 years since Roald Amundsen became the first person in the world to plant his flag on the South Pole,” said Daniel Skjeldam, CEO, Hurtigruten. “It has been 128 years since Fridtjof Nansen skied across Greenland and it is 120 years since Richard With, Hurtigruten’s founder, first started exploration tourism in the Arctic. So what could be more natural and appropriate than to name our new ships after these inspiring trailblazers.”

“These ground-breaking expedition ships will revolutionize adventure travel at sea,” continuedDaniel Skjeldam. “We are combining Hurtigruten’s 120-years of know-how with cutting-edge technology and design. The materials will be predominantly Norwegian, and inspired by nature with the innovative use of granite, oak, birch, wool, among other materials. All of which will be characterized by an innovative Scandinavian approach to interior design," added Skeldjam.

Tillberg Design of Sweden is very pleased to been assigned as Lead Architect for these unique interior design that will reflect the waters and landscapes the ships will traffic.
The vessels will have major observation platforms on several decks, so that guests come as close as possible to nature and wildlife. A special pool deck will include infinity pools, Jacuzzis and bars.
There will be three restaurants onboard, with menus that reflect the destinations’ local flavours and recipies. Most cabins will have their own balcony, a high proportion will be suites.
