Luxury Winter Accommodation, from Hidden Inns to Entertainment Spots Travel out from the City to Nikko, Kinugawa and Aizu

During winter, we recommend visiting Nikko, which is approximately two hours by train from Tokyo, as well as hot spring inns in Aizuwakamatsu and Kitakata, which are easily accessed from Nikko. We also introduce the Yunishigawa Kamakura (Japanese-style igloo) Festival, winter activities in Nikko City, hidden inns which are great for couples, and other accommodation options appropriate for people of all ages including children. We hope that you can enjoy these winter entertainment and accommodation options with the people closest to you.

Activities and Events for Making the Most out of the Snow Season

Each winter, in Nikko City, host of the Yunishigawa Kamakura (Japanese-style igloo) Festival, you can also discover quietness of the silver-white world wearing snowshoes, a completely different experience to the fantastic night lights of the festival.

In Aizuwakamatsu, at the Painted Candle Festival, featuring candles painted individually with flowers by local artists, flickering flames combine with the stately Tsuruga-jo Castle to create another memorable nightscape.

The Ageha Inn– A Favorite of Warrior KanmuHeishi with the Atmosphere of a Samurai Home

Ageha, a well-known inn on the banks of the river in the Yunishigawa Valley, is known for its beautiful wooden architecture and association with the samurai warrior KanmuHeishi. In the dining room, which is inside an old farmhouse relocated to this spot, diners can enjoy the best of the seasonal foods available from local mountains and rivers.

The inn also boasts the ‘Kiwami’, a special set of rooms previously used as a warrior’s house, with traditional fittings and furnishing that communicate the history of both Yunishigawa as a hideaway and of Nikko as an ancient city.
