"Nikko Kitchen," a new casual-style, locally sourced restaurant opened on October 1, 2025. Situated near Tobu Nikko Station, in the historic city of Nikko, it's just under two hours north of Tokyo. The menu features tasty and aesthetically pleasing dishes, including Nikko Wagyu beef steak and sukiyaki with meat sourced from Tochigi Prefecture's Kirifuki Highlands. They also serve up juicy hamburger steak, and crispy pork cutlets made with Tochigi's Nasu-gunji pork.

Other dishes include Nikko's famous yuba (tofu-skin), and sashimi and fish carpaccio, made from regionally farmed Yashio trout.

Featuring clean, wood-grain interiors with ample space between tables, the restaurant ambiance is relaxed and comfortable. Counter seats showcase Japanese garden views with the Nikko mountains in the background.

About the City of Nikko

Located about 90 miles north of Tokyo, the city of Nikko is a popular destination for tourists from Japan and abroad. Nikko's Two Shrines and One Temple -- Nikko Tosho-gu, the mausoleum of the first Tokugawa shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu; Futarasan Shrine founded in 782; and Rinno-ji Temple, founded in 766 -- were together registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. The full UNESCO site includes a complex of 103 structures -- 9 National Treasures and 94 Important Cultural Properties. Beyond the city, lies the area known as "Oku-Nikko" (Deep Nikko), rich in natural beauty -- featuring Kegon Waterfalls, Lake Chuzenji, Mount Nantai, and the Senjōgahara marshland. The scenic charm is such that since the late 1800s, ambassadors from Europe and the United States established villas here. Tobu Railway also sells the Nikko Pass which includes discount admission to Nikko attractions and transportation between Tokyo and Nikko and unlimited local bus rides in the Nikko area.

How to get to Nikko and Nikko Kitchen

From Tobu Asakusa Station in downtown Tokyo, take the Tobu Railway. Notably, the limited express "Spacia X (https://www.tobu.co.jp/spaciax/en/)," which began service in 2023, offers various seating options from standard seats to private compartments to lounge-style seating, including their spacious, top-tier "Cockpit Suite." Designed to evoke a private jet, this "suite on wheels," offers expansive views through the forward windows. After arriving at Tobu Nikko Station, it's just a 10-minute walk to the restaurant.
