‘Dramatic change’ in world shipping profile prompts Greece’s owners to re-examine strategy.

Under the expert eye of session moderator Prof. John Tzoannos, the former Secretary General of the Ministry of Mercantile Marine, well-known shipbroker and ex-Baltic Exchange Chairman, Peter Kerr-Dineen, will spark the discussion with a speech outlining the ‘dramatic changes in fleet profiles’, suggesting it is time for a renewed focus on ship’s specifications.

News last week of the closure of reefer operator Atlantic Wind Shipping (AWS) highlights the challenges of operating within a niche market.  Forum organiser, Jon Chaplin commented, ‘Greek ship owners are well known to be skillful in adapting to changing markets and ship types.  And now a growing number of Greece’s ship owners are actively diversifying. Strong local interest in the topic is evident from the fact we are over subscribed.’

Spirited exchanges are expected during the panel discussion session following Kerr-Dineen’s talk features several high profile stock-listed ship owners such as George Economou (DryShips) and Michael Bodouroglou (Paragon Shipping) and Harry Vafias (StealthGas).

The Shipowners Forum takes place at the Athens Hilton on October 5th and is sponsored by Clyde & Co, PL Ferrari, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Dubai Trading Agency (DTA), China Rongsheng Heavy Industry Group Holding, JLJ Maritime, Wartsila and Rosgosstrakh.
