Press release -
Swedish App Truecaller Reaches Half a Billion Monthly Name and Number Searches
Stockholm, Sweden - March 20, 2013: Truecaller, a collaborative global phone directory app, announces today that more than 13 million users worldwide are conducting over half a billion name and number searches each month.
Nami Zarringhalam, COO and co-founder of Truecaller: "This is a 70% increase in searches since the updated app was released last month launching name search for the first time. Half a billion searches a month is a testimonial to us being on our way to fulfilling our mission of being the world’s largest global phone directory that is intelligent, accurate, and easy to use. We are very proud!”
Since founded in 2009, the Swedish app has gained popularity and just in the last year grown its user base from 2.5 million to over 13 million. In countries where public phone directory data is scarce or non-existing Truecaller is popular for its name and number lookup but in mature phone directory markets, e.g. the Nordics, Truecaller is known for its call filter, that blocks unwanted sales calls.
“Half a billion searches is amazing,” says Alan Mamedi, CEO and co-founder of Truecaller. “But what´s even more amazing are the stories we hear from our users on how they, for the first time, actually get in touch with old friends and relatives, which was the reason we created Truecaller.”
