Truecaller celebrates Black Friday by becoming free worldwide

Stockholm, 22 November 2012 - Truecaller, the worlds most accurate phone directory with global coverage, celebrates the American Black Friday phenomenon by making the iPhone app free to download worldwide. Last year Truecaller celebrated Black Friday by offering Nordic users to download Truecaller for free during 24 hours. This year Truecaller takes one step further and allows the app to be free of charge permanently in the Nordics. Although Truecaller’s iPhone app has been in the top list of best-selling apps in the Nordics during the last year it will now be free of charge also in the Nordics and thereby free worldwide.

”Truecaller want to make it as easy as possible for people to get in touch with each other, no matter where in the world you are and who you want to contact. We work hard to have the most accurate phone directory in the world with global coverage and now, just in time for Black Friday, we can make Truecaller free for everyone”, says Alan Mamedi, co-founder and CEO of TrueCaller.

In addition to being the worlds most accurate phone directory with global coverage Truecaller has a spam filter that warns and blocks unwanted calls (e.g. calls from numbers that other Truecaller users listed as unwanted calls) and a function that allows users to see who is calling even if the number previously is not inserted into the phone (Android, Symbian and BlackBerry). Truecaller also keeps your contacts up-to-date with addresses and displays the latest Facebook status of the person who called you (Android, Symbian and BlackBerry).

”In India there are about 900 million phone subscribers and about 99% of them are to pre-paid. Truecaller’s users share their phone book contacts which complements our global directory and thereby also covers people with pre-paid phones. Truecaller currently cover about 60% (1%) of India's telephone number, approximately 80% (53%) of the Nordic region and about 50% (33%) of the U.S.” continues Alan Mamedi, co-founder and CEO of Truecaller. The Truecaller iPhone app can be downloaded for free in the Nordics from 9 am CET on "Black Friday" on November 23rd. The app is also available for free on Android, Symbian (S60 & S40), BlackBerry, and Windows Phone (also available online) since earlier. Truecaller’s iPhone app previously cost 1 dollar on Apple's AppStore.
