Adder Uses Engineering Skills to Support NHS Frontline Staff

Since the outbreak of Covid-19 began earlier this year, personal protective equipment (PPE) has been critical in helping prevent NHS staff from becoming infected. Overwhelming numbers of coronavirus cases have led to shortages in vital PPE around the world.

Today, Adder is proud to announce it is doing what it can to help fight against the virus, by designing and manufacturing protective visors for frontline NHS staff.

A small team of Adder engineers are using their 3D printing skills to design, print and assemble full-face protective visors which are then being supplied directly to Addenbrooke’s NHS Hospital in Cambridge. Adder aims to manufacturing and distribute 50 visors a week alongside its range of high-performance IP KVM solutions.

The newly designed PETG visor holds an acetate sheet to provide full face and neck protection and is held in place with an elastic head strap and 3D printed PETG clip. Each visor is carefully cleaned before distribution and can be easily dismantled and cleaned before each use.

Matthew Woollard, production engineer at Adder who is spearheading the project, said: “Like everyone else, we have been inspired by the efforts of NHS staff and our emergency services in these unprecedented times, so we felt it was our duty to do something to help. It’s great to be able to use Adder’s innovative spirit to give something back to those on the frontline. While this is a small effort, it is vital we help as many people as we can by utilizing our resources and skills.”
