Engineering the Next Generation: Adder at the Careers Carousel

At Adder, we are passionate about nurturing young talent and fostering their interest in engineering. That's why we were thrilled to be a part of the Careers Carousel event at Comberton Village College recently, where we had the opportunity to engage with aspiring engineers from Year 10. We caught up with Darrin Steel, a senior electronics engineer at Adder, who attended the event, to find out how Adder is engaging with the local community to inspire future engineers! Read on to discover what happened...

What’s been happening?

The Careers Carousel was organized with the aim of exposing students to a wide range of career options and providing them with valuable insights to make informed decisions about their future. In today's rapidly evolving work environment, it is crucial for young people to be aware of the diverse job opportunities available to them. This event served as a pivotal moment to have a lasting influence on the students' decision-making process and motivation to succeed.

During the event, local employers were invited to discuss their career paths and promote company opportunities to small groups of students in short sessions. I was honored to attend and share my experience, as well as provide information about what we do in our roles as Electronics Design Engineers at Adder.

What did we show the students?

Our session showcased the latest KVM technology that I had personally been involved in designing. It served as a tangible example, allowing us to engage the students in a "show and tell" session. The students were incredibly attentive and showed genuine interest in learning about the product and its design process.

The positive feedback we received from Comberton Village College was truly heart-warming. They expressed their gratitude for the work experience placements we had provided in the past and recognized the invaluable experience it provided to their pupils and students. It was a natural progression for us to be invited to the Careers Carousel.

Fay Lawson, the event organiser from Comberton Village College shared, "These opportunities provide an invaluable experience to our pupils and students. I just wanted to say a big thank you for attending the Careers Carousel today. It was great to see how engaged pupils were and how much they enjoyed it. We really appreciate Adder’s help and support in putting on these events, thank you so much for giving your time to attend.”

What’s next?

Going forward, we have been asked to participate in future Careers Carousel events, and we couldn't be more excited. And who knows, among the talented students we interacted with, there may be future Adder engineers in the making.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Comberton Village College for organizing such a meaningful event and giving us the opportunity to contribute. Events like the Careers Carousel play a crucial role in shaping young minds and empowering them to pursue fulfilling careers.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates and initiatives from Adder as we continue to inspire, support, and make a positive impact on the aspiring engineers of tomorrow. Already looking to explore a career in electronic engineering? Then check out Adder’s careers hub for the latest opportunities.
