From the Pitch to the Future: Building Confidence Through Women’s Sport
Our work at Adder Technology is rooted in enabling collaboration and communication across the world. The same principles are visible in team sport, where success depends on working together. Football, in particular, teaches young people how to communicate, adapt and support one another.
For the U13 girls at Milton Colts, football is an environment where they can build confidence, learn leadership skills and develop resilience. These are not just sporting lessons, they are skills that will serve them in education, future careers and personal relationships.
Georgia Cuttriss, senior marketing executive, at Adder Technology, reflects on the values sport instills in young people:
“Having played a lot of sport when I was younger, I’ve seen first-hand how the lessons learned on the pitch stay with you for life. Sport taught me the importance of teamwork, determination, and resilience, qualities that have shaped my career and personal life. I’m proud that Adder Technology can help provide the same opportunities for the next generation, giving these young women experiences that will support them long beyond football.”
The long-term impact of experiences like these is well supported by wider research, which consistently highlights the connection between participation in sport and professional success for women.
A global study conducted by Deloitte found that 85% of women who played competitive sport say the skills they developed, including teamwork, leadership, communication and resilience, were important to their career success*. This figure rises to 91% among women in leadership roles and 93% among women earning over $100,000 annually.
The same research shows that 75% of women who played competitive sports agree that girls who participate in sport are more likely to be successful in their careers, a view shared by 61% of respondents overall, regardless of whether they personally played sport. The correlation becomes particularly visible at senior levels, with 69% of women in management or leadership roles earning over $100,000 annually reporting that they played competitive sport when they were younger.
According to an EY and espnW global survey of senior female executives, 94% of women in C-suite roles had played sport, and 52% participated at the university level**, suggesting that sporting experiences may contribute to leadership development over the course of a career.
By sponsoring the U13 girls at Milton Colts, Adder Technology is pleased to play a part in shaping these experiences. We see grassroots football as a foundation for future leaders, equipping young women with values that will last far beyond their playing days.
