LANGTRY BUSINESS AWARDS - BEST EMPLOYER - FINAL THREE

This is a proud achievement for both teams as it is the only category that can be won by a man.  Coincidentally, both businesses are Southbourne based.

Roger Tilley of Tanner & Tilley and Des Simmons of Bournecoast were both initially voted for by the women in their respective organisations for the support received in their working environments, flexibility and support to family situations.

The nominations were then shortlisted to the final ten and voting began on the Coast FM as this is a Coast FM sponsored category.

Both Roger and Des are overjoyed to have got this far and whilst both would love to win, they are glad that it is a local business colleague that is also in the running.

Established in 1960 Bournecoast is a family operated independent property agents, who manage, sell and let holiday and residential lettings properties.  Bournecoast has been family run for 50 years and is now in its third generation. Des Simmons who in addition to being the Managing Director of Bournecoast is also the Vice Chairman of the Bournemouth Area Hospitality Association and the recently voted Chairman for the Coastal BID.  He runs the company alongside his siblings as Directors.

Tanner & Tilley are a long established Town Planners and Roger Tilley is a Chartered Town Planner, Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Member of the Institute of Management and a Member of the Institute of Directors, he has for over 40 years been helping clients get the most from their property investments.

When questioned on how they felt about reaching the final, both Des and Roger commented, “We are absolutely delighted to get this far and for two businesses in the same business district this is great news.”

In 2010 Bournecoast celebrated it’s 50th anniversary and has been family run since it’s inception when it was established by Major & June Webb in 1960.  Keith Simmons MBE, the previous managing director and Major Webb’s son-in-law, was then joined by his son and daughters, Des Simmons, Veronica Strongman andAnita Smith, who now run the company with a team of fifteen staff.

Many of the Tanner & Tilley Team have worked within local authorities and understand them intimately – equally important in putting an application together as navigating their way through the planning system.

Combining these and satisfying the local authority is a juggling act  their team has successfully managed many times.

Roger Tilley is a Chartered Town Planner, Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Member of theInstituteofManagementand a Member of theInstituteofDirectors, and has for over 40 years been helping clients get the most from their property investments.

Roger’s background is in both public and private sector organisations at the highest level. He was the first Conservation Officer to be appointed inEngland.   Whether it is listed buildings, developments in conservation areas, older people’s care or retirement housing, Roger’s knowledge of planning and its effect on development, is second to none. Combined with his approachable style, his expertise has won praise from clients and Council planners alike. He has written and lectured on planning for care for many years, and has sat on various working parties and groups. He is the National Planning Advisor to the Home Builders Federation’s Retirement Housing Group.
