Cleaning Wine Glasses

You'll want your crystal wine glasses to look their best every time you use them.  For this reason, it is important that your wine glasses are cleaned correctly every time that you use them.  We've compiled a few hints and tips to help you keep yourcrystal wine glasses as good as the day you bought them..

We supply a range of Schott Zwiesel glassware to a variety of catering environments includingglassware for restaurants and hotelsglassware for boardrooms and business meetings and evenglassware for home!

Depending on the environment in which you use your wine glasses, your options for cleaning your glasses may vary greatly.

If you are using your crystal glassware in a domestic setting or for a dinner party at home we would recommend the following cleaning instructions:

  1. Don't use your domestic dishwasher!  Dishwashers are designed to remove food and grime that have been burnt or baked onto plates and other dishes.  This aggressive cleaning process can cause damage to your wine glasses in the form of chipping or, even worse, breakages!
  2. Add to this the fact that if you are washing your plates and glasses together, the food removed from your plates may be swishing around your glasses and can actually cause staining to your wine glasses.
  3. For best results we recommend that you clean your glasses by hand in warm water (83°C is said to be the optimum temperature for sterilising glassware) and let them dry naturally.  Even the cleanest tea towel will leave some fibres on your glass!  If you need to use your wine glasses quite quickly again after washing, there are a range of quality glass clothswhich can be used to complete the drying process.

Many hotels, restaurants and bars will have a commercial glasswasher installed which is necessary as they will obviously require their glasses to be used again much quicker than you would in a domestic environment.  As the name suggests, these commercial glasswashers are designed specifically for cleaning glassware and are much more easier on the wine glass than a domestic dishwasher would be.

If you are using a commercial glasswasher, use a small amount of Glasswasher Detergent and let the glasswasher cycle run through. Once again, quality glass cloths can be used to speed up the drying process.

If you've any hints and tips of your own, we'd love to hear them!
