Exhibition Stand Builders Help Local Students Get Creative

Bespoke exhibition stand builders Astro Exhibitions are using their surplus building materials to help the local community. Students at New Mills School Business and Enterprise College in High Peak can now get even more creative in their design and technology lessons thanks to donations of plywood and Perspex from the company.

This initiative benefits both Astro Exhibitions and the wider community. Workshop Manager Mark Canale, who came up with the idea of the donations comments: “Giving away our offcuts helps in two ways, we can recycle our waste and the school benefits from free materials”.

Since it was founded in 2001, Astro Exhibitions has built bespoke exhibition stands for some of the world’s largest companies, for events at prestigious venues both in the UK and abroad. Their portfolio of clients includes global companies such as Michelin, BASF and Shell.

Catering for around 750 students between the ages of 11-18, New Mills School has been a Business and Enterprise College since 2005. Its pupils are taken from the nearby areas of New Mills, Hague Bar, Thornsett, Furness Vale, Newtown and Hayfield.

Jesse Elms, head-teacher of New Mills School has written to Astro Exhibitions, expressing his gratitude and thanks for the donation. From the school’s perspective, not only does the initiative allow students to undertake more challenging technology projects, but it also helps to reduce costs.

Astro Exhibitions have previously donated surplus exhibition stand building materials to the community. In winter, local people are invited to visit their site to collect left-over wood for their log fires. Astro Exhibitions will also deliver the wood to people’s homes.
