British Open odds: The bets that the punters went for

The 140th British Open started this Thursday and the punters at Betclic gave Rory McIlroy most attention on the winning market.

 -   About 2/5 of the money and about 1/3 of all bets for the outright winner was on Rory, says Dan Vikman, PR Manager at the online bookmaker.

Rory McIlroy, this summer’s US Open winner, aims to repeat Tiger Woods feat from 2000 when the now injured American won back to back open titles.

But with the wind up at Royal St George´s it will not be an easy four days for the world’s top golfers and the outsiders will have a say for sure.

Other players who got the attention are naturally the English players mainly Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Luke Donald. Retief Goosen also attracted interest and is now down to 40 times the money with Betclic.

- Of the outsiders, former champion Mark O'Meara is getting some interest at ambitious odds of 1000 times the money. Kaymer for Place in the top 5 is popular, as is Overton for top American at 22.00 in odds - backed across the industry.
