Press release

Waberer’s and the BPW Group agree strategic partnership for Europe’s trailer fleets

  • Partnership with one of Europe’s leading FTL logistics providers
  • Framework agreement with idem telematics covering 2,200 telematics units
  • More than 400 Hestal FlowMaster systems ordered for trailer retrofits
  • BPW axle technology specified for Waberer’s 2026 fleet renewal

Budapest/Wiehl, 30 June 2026 --- Fleet operators no longer look at trailer technology as a collection of individual parts. They need partners who can combine efficiency, uptime and digital transparency across the entire trailer operation. Waberer’s Group and the BPW Group have agreed a strategic partnership built on this broader understanding of trailer operations — combining telematics, aerodynamic retrofit solutions and axle technology.

The BPW Group is deepening its cooperation with Waberer’s, one of Europe’s largest complex logistics companies and the market leader in Hungary. The partnership is built around a framework agreement with idem telematics covering 2,200 telematics units over the next five years. Implementation has already begun: more than 300 units have been integrated into vehicles.

At the same time, Waberer’s has ordered more than 400 Hestal FlowMaster systems. The aerodynamic retrofit solution reduces drag at the rear of existing trailers and is expected to save a six-figure euro amount in diesel costs each year. For its 2026 fleet renewal, Waberer’s will also equip 200 new semi-trailers with BPW axle technology.

“This partnership sends a clear signal: large fleets no longer view trailer technology in isolation, but as an integral contributor to efficiency, availability and future competitiveness,” says Ralf Merkelbach, Head of Fleet Sales Europe at BPW. “With axle systems, telematics and intelligent components, the BPW Group offers exactly the combination of reliability and digital competence that modern logistics companies need.”

Waberer’s operates a road fleet of nearly 2700 vehicles across international and regional operations. The partnership with BPW follows a clear objective: to combine robust vehicle technology, digital solutions and practical efficiency components into an integrated system that improves both transport operations and fleet performance.

The telematics solutions from idem telematics connect trailers, cargo and processes. They enable fleet operators to record trailer status, deployment and availability systematically — and to turn this data into better operational decisions. For international logistics providers, such transparency is essential for managing fleets more efficiently, reducing downtime and securing service quality.

With the Hestal FlowMaster, Waberer’s is investing in a solution that has an immediate effect in daily operation. The aerodynamically optimised rear beam reduces drag at the back of the trailer and lowers diesel consumption by up to 0.4 litres per 100 kilometres. The order for more than 400 units shows that the partnership is not focused solely on future vehicles, but also on making the existing fleet more efficient.

“The continous modernisation of our fleet is not only a procurement question, but a long-term operational and strategic task,” says Laszlo Budai, Technical and Facilities Director at Waberer’s. “For a fleet of our size, reliable technology, predictable maintenance, fuel efficiency and transparent fleet data all have a direct impact on daily operations. What makes this cooperation valuable for us is that BPW does not only provide components, but brings practical experience, technical expertise and a partnership-based approach to fleet development.”

The integration of BPW axle technology into Waberer’s 2026 vehicle procurement follows the same logic. With the new semi-trailers, the partnership moves beyond individual products and supports a more integrated approach to trailer operations — combining running gear, trailer components and telematics solutions in line with Waberer’s long-term efficiency and sustainability objectives.

“Large fleets need partners with a European perspective, industrial scale and a proven understanding of day-to-day transport operations, adds Ralf Merkelbach. “The cooperation with Waberer’s shows how the BPW Group can help shape the next stage of trailer operation — as a mobility partner for efficiency, uptime and connected fleet management.”

For the BPW Group, the trailer has always been a business-critical system in road transport. With axle and running gear technology, telematics, locking and bodywork technology as well as digital services, the group brings together capabilities that are becoming increasingly important for fleet operators. The partnership with Waberer’s underlines this ambition: trailer technology is becoming an integrated driver of efficiency — in existing fleets, in new vehicles and in digital fleet operations.
