In a recent interview, the Managing Director of Aurora Telecom, Ian Attwood, stated:

“2018 will be a pivotal year for UK Telecoms. Developments in 5G and rural broadband will lay the foundations for a huge rollout in 2019. We are preparing ourselves for a year that will fundamentally shape the UK and its digital ambitions.”

The telecom providers predictions are as follows:

Innovative new networks.

Aurora Telecom believes that as the need for connectivity increases, existing assets will be used to create new networks. The firm suggests that new and creative ways of extending systems will need to be utilised like using sewers, spare ducts, highways or rail networks as alternatives for network cabling. With the government claiming that they want everyone in the UK to receive at least 10Mbps by 2020, suppliers will need to begin to innovate and build a robust infrastructure to achieve this goal.

The 5G spectrum debate will continue

Aurora Telecom sees 5G as an incredibly popular concept within the telecom industry. They are firm believers that this trend is not likely to slow down this year. Instead, they agree with a recent report stating that by 2021, 24 million people will be using 5G. Aurora believes that while much of the telecom companies in the UK will be preparing for the switch, WiFi remains one of the most commonly utilised methods of getting online and as such suggest that Telecom companies will stay focused on the development of more Wifi hotspots.

Move to VoIP

Aurora Telecom also argues that UK business’ will begin to see a shift toward Voice Over Internet Protocols. Essentially, more and more companies will start to call over an internet connection rather than traditional phone lines. As business becomes increasingly mobile and international in the UK, Aurora Telecom expects strong internet connections that can maintain solid sound quality will become essential.

As the telecoms industry gets increasingly complex, Aurora Telecom confirms their commitment to providing transparent and flexible telecom services to SMEs. The firm looks forward to 2018, and the ongoing evolution of the telecoms industry.
