LuCreative host workshop on being interested versus committed

Managing Director at LuCreative, Connor Hodgson held a company-wide workshop this week, on the subject of interest versus commitment.

Managing Director, Connor Hodgson has big goals for the firm in 2018, and he recognises that to achieve those goals, the firm’s workforce has to be committed to the cause. During the workshop, Mr. Hodgson explained the definition of both interest and commitment;

Commitment is defined as “the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc.”

Interest is defined as “the feeling of wanting to know or learn about something or someone.”

The entrepreneur argues that when it comes to pursuing dreams, being interested isn’t enough, and total commitment is the only way to achieve success. Mr. Hodgson highlighted the main differences between someone who is interested versus committed:

1. Follower over leader

Mr. Hodgson argued that those who merely possess an interest are happy to follow the lead of others, rather than taking control and leading from the front. The entrepreneur believes that interested people tend to need the comfort of following, however, if someone is committed they want to take the bull by the horns and make it work.

2. Wishing versus making it happen

Mr. Hodgson believes that the language people use can determine whether they are interested or committed.The business owner contends that those who possess an interest will wish for things to happen, rather than making it happen. Mr. Hodgson believes that those with a commitment take action and make things happen.

3. Stagnant versus developing

From his experience as a business coach, Mr. Hodgson thinks that those with interest are content with where they’re at and often remain stagnant, instead of progressing, whereas those with a commitment are always seeking to improve and do better.

4. Need motivation versus self-motivation

Mr. Hodgson believes that interested individuals require motivation from outside influences, whereas individuals with a total commitment possess self-motivation and have the ability to stay on course.
