BARRY M MAKES SWEET MUSIC WITH ROBOTS IN DISGUISE
Maverick electro-indie-rock-dance duo, Robots in Disguise, (aka Dee Plume and Sue Denim) have released ‘Wake Up’, a single inspired by and recorded with the support of top British fashion cosmetics brand Barry M.
The idea for ‘Wake Up’ (an instantly catchy pop-punk confection) came to the band when they happened to see a television ad for Barry M with the tagline, ‘Wake Up your Make Up!’. When the band had completed the song they approached Barry M and ended up meeting Barry M Managing Director, Dean Mero: “Many of our staff knew Robots in Disguise and that they liked our products, so when they phoned me up saying they’d written a song for us, I was intrigued. When we met the girls they wowed us with the song and we agreed right there and then to become involved.”
From the meeting, Barry M agreed to finance a video for the song but also agreed to create a new Robots in Disguise Barry M lipstick - in a particular shade of ‘Robot Blue’ and the perfect complement for a band renowned for its quirky and original make up looks and theatrical costumes!
According to Dee Plume, “The single, ‘Wake Up’, is an anthem to creativity and self-expression for all – including being artistic with makeup! We’d always loved Barry M. They’ve got great colours and Sue and I wear their products on and off stage. But when we saw their ad on TV last year – featuring a girl on guitar – we threw down our lipsticks and said - Barry M, we’re gonna write you a song! We’re girls who can really play guitars!”
What’s more, Barry M’s make up product names proved perfect lyrical material for the track's tripped out verses; Petrol Black, Midnight, Aqua Gold, Parrot Green, Chocolate and the newest, Robot Blue.
The video of ‘Wake Up’ was directed by Elisha Smith-Leverock and features a 6ft tall flying Robot Blue lipstick. It is available to download exclusively from the Barry M website – http://www.barrym.com/fun/robots-in-disguise.asp – from 19th April 2010 and ‘Wake Up’, the single, which is being released by President Records, will be available from iTunes. Barry M’s Blue Robot lipstick is available to purchase, priced £4.25 exclusively at www.barrym.com.
