Brunel University awarded world’s leading Power Systems Analysis Software

Electronic and Computer Engineering Department at Brunel University receives ETAP software sponsorship from Power Analysis Systems leader Operation Technology, Inc.

Uxbridge, London 19 May 2010 – Brunel University, one of the UK’s leading and most progressive research-led universities, today announces that it has been awarded $125,000 of ETAP Electrical Power Analysis Software for its Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering by the leading power system analytical firm, Operation Technology Inc.(OTI).

The highly prized donation comprises 40 licenses to the ETAP software enabling Brunel students and researchers to effectively model major electrical power systems and emulate real power networks on computers to simulate risks and analyze optimal end-to-end power system delivery.

“This is a highly significant software award for our Department by a global pioneer of power analysis tools,” said Professor Abdul H. Sadka, Head of Electronic and Computer Engineering at Brunel University.

“The ETAP Software package, which features several modules, will serve as a valuable hands-on learning tool for our Electrical Power students and researchers.  It will comprehensively equip the Department to provide essential research in the optimisation of electrical power distribution – of critical consideration in a growing climate of environmental concern over energy conservation and the economies of delivering power into the home.

“We are extremely grateful to Operation Technology for this pivotal donation, we see the company as a valuable partner to the Department and to the furtherance of excellence at Brunel University overall.”

The ETAP Electrical Power Analysis Software donation comes as part of a three-year agreement with Operation Technology, Inc. which includes support services out of the US.  The Brunel Power Laboratory will be visibly billed as sponsored by ETAP for the duration of the award.

“We have always been a strong supporter of educational programs for power systems. ETAP provides universities with access to the latest technology for the design, modeling, and analysis of electrical power systems,” commented Shervin Shokooh, COO of Operation Technology, Inc.

“ETAP allows students the opportunity to do real-world practical problems utilizing the most sophisticated electrical engineering software package available. Students not only learn how to use ETAP to solve engineering queries, but also have the opportunity to be better prepared to enter the workforce upon graduation.”
