Press release -

A man was knocked unconscious as he was robbed in Holcombe Brook.

The incident happened on Westgate Avenue in Holcombe Brook, Bury, sometime between 8.45pm and 9pm on Friday 22 February 2013.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, was walking from Westgate Avenue towards Kendal Road to his vehicle, when he was approached from behind by a man and hit over the head.

The 24-year-old was knocked unconscious and money was stolen from him as he lay on the ground.

A passing motorist saw the man on the floor and came to his aid. He was taken to hospital for treatment for concussion.

The victim was wearing a Leeds United jacket which is royal blue in colour, grey tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

Detective Constable Lindsey Worrall from Bury CID said: “This is an extremely rare occurrence for a robbery to be committed in the Holcombe Brook area and I have no doubt people will be shocked to hear news of it.

“The victim must have been hit with some force to knock him unconscious and it is lucky he was not more seriously injured as a result of his fall.

“If anyone remembers seeing a man hanging around this area or anything out of the ordinary on Friday evening, please get in touch and tell us what you saw. Your information, no matter how small or trivial you think it may be, could be vital to our investigation.”
