Bury Council has been named one of the Britain’s top gay-friendly employers by professional lobbying group Stonewall.

The council is now listed as number 37 in Stonewall’s Top 100 Employers which showcases the progress being made in so many workplaces towards full equality for Britain’s 1.7 million lesbian, gay and bisexual employees.

Bury Council was also give the honour as top performing council in the North West and named fourth nationally in the local government sector in the latest Stonewall workplace equality report.

As part of the Workplace Equality Index assessment Stonewall recognises employee network groups, Star Performer Network Groups, which work hard to help make sure the bosses'get it right' for their staff. The council can now proudly display Stonewall’s Star Performer logo, acknowledging the role of individuals who participate in network groups, often in their own time, to support employers and employees to achieve an equal workplace.
