Bury’s Olympic Legacy now on display

A special exhibition is keeping the Olympic flame burning brightly at Bury Library.

A fascinating display of London 2012 memorabilia is now on display, including a torchbearer’s uniform and bunting.

Pride of place is an Olympic torch that was carried on the relay by local torchbearer Guy Lovgreen, who teaches at Bury Grammar School. He has loaned the torch to Bury Sport and Physical Activity Service so that many more people can see it, and help to create a lasting Olympic and Paralympic legacy for the borough.

Guy, who carried the torch though Croston village near Chorley, said: “The day itself was something I will never forget. The noise was extraordinary: it was quite disorientating, having so much noise and camera flashes and people shouting your name.

“My whole outlook on this experience is that it isn't my torch; I've been given the responsibility to share it. I love being able to hand it to people and stand back. It's been all over the north west and into as many places as possible.”

The display will remain at Bury Library throughout March, and then move to a different location. To ‘follow the torch’, keep an eye on the website, facebook (www.bury.gov.uk/burysportandphysicalactivityservice) and twitter (www.twitter.com/bury_bepartofit).
