Calling young people - your Township Forum needs you!

Young adults are being invited to play a key role in shaping the future of where they live.

A place has been reserved for a young person (aged 16 to 25) on each of the borough’s six Township Forums, but two forums – Bury West and Ramsbottom, Tottington and North Manor – have a vacancy.

Beccie Mayo, the young person’s representative on the Bury East Township Forum, is encouraging people like her to join.

“I have just recently joined the Bury East forum and have enjoyed learning about the different projects and issues that will impact on all young people in my township,” she said.

“I have particularly enjoyed supporting the work our forum has done to attract national funding to tackle alcohol related issues in Bury East, helping to ensure young people have a voice.”

Councillor Sandra Walmsley, cabinet member for community development, said: “I believe that young people have a vital role to play in shaping local communities and I believe they want to actively contribute and play an active role in decisions and discussions that affect their lives. This is an excellent opportunity for interested young people to build their confidence and skills by working with others, influencing service providers and developing an understanding of local democracy in action. It is a forum where the voice of young people will most definitely be heard.

“If you’re interested, please contact us, or come along to the next Township Forum meeting where you can have a chat and see how it all works.”

For more information, call Cindy Lowthian, communities manager, on 0161 253 5121 or email C.Lowthian@bury.gov.uk
