Press release -

Celebrating diversity with a Walking Rainbow

Young people in Bury are organising a Walking Rainbow to celebrate diversity in the borough and to say ‘no’ to homophobia.

Bury’s Proud of Gayness (POG) youth group and Bury Youth Cabinet are hoping hundreds of people from all ages and backgrounds will join them on Sunday 7 July.

The walk starts at 1pm from Bury Town Hall, travelling up The Haymarket, Moss Street, Silver Street and along the old Rock before heading to Kay Gardens where there will be information stands, music, speakers and celebrations.

The event is supported by Bury Council with help from Bury Police, The Royal Exchange, The Lesbian and Gay Foundation, Gaydio, and LGBT Youth North West.

Councillor Sandra Walmsley, cabinet member for communities and community safety, said: “This is a celebration of Bury as a diverse, tolerant and welcoming community, and anyone can come along and enjoy the fun.”
