Do you know a local sporting hero?

Nominations open on 2 April for this year’s Bury Sports Awards, which aim to find and honour the borough’s finest sporting ambassadors.

Each yearBury Sport and Physical Activity Service celebrates those who have made an outstanding contribution to local sport at a glittering ceremony, which will be held on Friday 13 September at Radcliffe Civic Suite.

The big night has been arranged in partnership with Radcliffe and Bury South Sports Forum, and will feature guest speakers, presentation of the awards, entertainment and a three-course meal.

There are seven categories which individuals or clubs can be entered for, and the winners will go on to represent Bury at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards. Categories are:

·  Coach of the Year

·  Club of the Year

·  Volunteer of the Year

·  Unsung Hero

·  Sports Achiever of the Year

·  Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year

·  Young Leader Award (this is a local award to Bury so will not be entered into the Greater Manchester Sports Awards)

There will also be five special recognition awards:

·  Prestwich Special Recognition Award

·  Radcliffe Special Recognition Award

·  Primary School Recognition Award

·  Secondary School Special Recognition Award

·  Changing Lifestyle Recognition Award (previously Physical Activity Achiever Award)

Nominations can be made online at: www.bury.gov.uk/sportsdevelopment or www.greatersport.co.uk/awards where you will find templates on each category to help you fill in your nomination. Nominations close on 26 July.

Alternatively, nomination forms can be picked up from Bury Sport and Physical Activity Service at Castle Leisure Centre, Bolton Street, Bury.
