Forum to hear good news on local bus services

Buses will once again be top of the agenda when Whitefield and Unsworth Township Forum meets on Tuesday 20 November.

Changes to First services prompted forum members to attend a meeting of Transport for Greater Manchester bus sub-group, and a public meeting on 2 November which was attended by almost 100 local residents. First director Paul Turner is now expected to tell the forum that the bus links to Whitefield centre and to Pilsworth will be reinstated.

Council planning officers will be there to explain Bury’s draft Core Strategy, a planning blueprint which will guide development in the borough over the next 15 years. Consultation on the strategy runs until Friday 30 November, and visitors can take away summary leaflets which explain how the strategy affects particular areas and how you can make comments.

There will also be an update on the Whitefield and Unsworth Action Plan.

The meeting is at the Elms Centre in Whitefield starting at 1pm. It will include the usual open forum and updates from the police. Residents can also speak to local police officers before the meeting, from 12.30pm.

Councillor Ken Audin, forum chair, said: “We hope that local residents will come along and join us at the meeting. The Whitefield and Unsworth winter meetings are scheduled for the afternoon as this has been a popular thing to do in this area. The agenda is again on key local issues and we want to hear the views of local people.”
