Free cycle maintenance courses for Bury

Free tutorials are taking place in Bury for cyclists who want to learn how to keep their bike in tip-top condition.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is holding four ‘cycle maintenance’ courses based at the Urban Cycle Centre, Park Lane, Phillips Park, Whitefield M45 7QJ.

Attendees will learn skills including how to keep their bikes clean, mend punctures and safely adjust brakes and gears for a smooth ride.

The courses last for two hours, are for adults over 16 years old and must be booked before attending at http://bit.ly/11j5VnN or by phoning 0300 123 1675.

They will be tutored by experts and people are advised to bring their own bike to the course, although demonstration bikes can be made available on request.

The full times and dates are as followed:

·  Tuesday 28 May, 7pm-9pm

·  Wednesday 29 May, 6pm-8pm

·  Thursday 30 May, 7pm-9pm

·  Saturday 1 June, 10am-12pm

The Bury courses are four amongst many taking place throughout the ten districts of Greater Manchester as TfGM aims to make Greater Manchester the most cycle-friendly British region outside London.

In April, a major 12 year cycling strategy – called ‘Vélocity 2025’ – was submitted by TfGM to central government in a bid to secure £20million of national investment in Greater Manchester cycling, education and infrastructure.

Councillor Andrew Fender, Chair of the TfGM Committee, said: “We have grand plans for cycling in Greater Manchester and want to increase usage amongst local communities.

“Part of this is giving cyclists with a bit of experience the tools and knowledge to stay on their bikes through all conditions and scenarios.

“These maintenance courses in Whitefield are free, easy to book, will provide expert help and are certainly a couple of hours well spent.”
