Long-serving councillors receive award

Four councillors have been given long-service awards after notching up a combined 123 years of public service in Bury.

They received their certificates from the outgoing Mayor of Bury, Councillor Joan Grimshaw, at the annual meeting of Bury Council on 14 May.

The four are:

* Cllr Alan Matthews has represented Besses ward in Whitefield for 34 years, and is Bury’s longest serving councillor.

* Cllr Roy Walker, member for Church ward, with 31 years as a Bury councillor.

* Cllr Trevor Holt, who has served 30 years representing East Ward.

* Cllr Tony Isherwood, with 28 years service as a Radcliffe councillor.

Cllr Mike Connolly, leader of the council, said: “All these councillors have given a huge amount of their time to represent their local communities, both in their wards and in the council chamber. I congratulate them and thank them for their hard work and dedication to the borough.”
