Outdoor activities for the half-term holidays

Enjoy the great outdoors with a range of family events organised by theBury Accessible Natural Greenspace Project.

During half-term, there will be pond-dipping sessions at Redbank Lodges in Radcliffe (Wednesday 29 May), Boz Park in Whitefield (Thursday 30 May) and at Chesham Local Nature Reserve in Bury (Friday 31 May). These sessions start at 11am and are free, but places must be booked.

Then the focus moves to Chesham LNR for three events:

* Saturday 1 June – children can have a go at building their own den in the woods. Again, parents are advised to book as soon as possible.

* Saturday 8 June - David Winnard will lead an “edible and medicinal” walk around the reserve. This will give people an opportunity to find out about the uses of some of our more common plants as well as taking in the sights and smells of the bluebell woods. The walk is free but booking is required.

* Sunday 16 June (noon-4pm) - the annual Chesham Local Nature Reserve Open day will be held on Walker’s Field off Chesham Road.  The event has loads of free activities for all the family including circus skill workshops, arts and crafts, willow weaving, bodging demonstrations, guided walk, pond dipping and mini-beast hunt. The event is an ideal opportunity to find out more about this beautiful greenspace and how to get involved in looking after it.

For more details, and to book places, call Jacqui Goggs on 0161 253 7764 or email j.goggs@bury.gov.uk
