Raising money and awareness of dementia

A wide range of activities has been organised in Bury to mark Dementia Awareness Week (20-25 May).

This year’s theme is “Worrying changes nothing. Talking changes everything”, which aims to encourage people to discuss the subject.

Local events have been arranged by Bury Council and its partners Making Space, The Alzheimer’s Society, Crossroads Care, The Fed, Bury FC and more.

* Monday 20 May

·  Dementia logo in flower bed/memorial garden in Unity Garden from 1pm

·  Dementia awareness talk with Making Space and Easy Care at the Fusilier Museum (10am–noon)

·  Coffee morning at Brandlesholme Community Centre and Library (10.30am–noon)

* Tuesday 21 May

·  Coffee morning at Adult Care Connect and Direct, Manchester Road (10am–2pm)

·  Magician, refreshments and get-together at Rose Court Residential Home (from 2.15pm)

·  Coffee morning at Tottington Library (10am–noon)

* Wednesday 22 May

·  Dementia Café in the Mill Gate Shopping Centre, opposite Body Care (10am–noon)

·  Memory Lane National Football Museum trip with Gigg Lane Social Club (from 9.30am - book your place by calling 07557 232421)

·  Education talks/training by Patsy Pope at The FED Synagogues in Prestwich, “The Shrubberies” (8.15am–10.15am)

·  Coffee morning at Moorside Community Centre and Library (10.30am–11.30am)

* Thursday 23 May

·  Fundraising coffee morning at Delicious Café at the Fusilier Museum (10am–noon)

·  Information event at the Jinnah Centre (10am–3pm)

* Friday 24 May

·  Big party at Pinfold Lane Day Care Centre (from 1.30pm)

·  ‘Singing for the Brain’ at Elms Community Centre (from 10am)

·  Information drop-in session at Ainsworth Library (2pm–4pm)

·  Musical Memories Group and information by Crossroads at the Mill Gate Shopping Centre (10am–2pm)
