Press release -

Restructure of council’s cabinet

The council’s ruling cabinet, which makes the key decisions on Bury Council, has been restructured.

The cabinet is being reduced from ten to nine members, and was approved by council today (Tuesday 14 May) at its annual meeting. As part of the restructure, a number of deputy cabinet members will be created.

Cabinet members, deputies and portfolios:

* Cllr Mike Connolly – leader of the council, policy, performance, economic development and regeneration

* Cllr John Smith (deputy Cllr Trevor Holt) – finance and corporate affairs

* Cllr Tony Isherwood (Cllr Susan Southworth) – environment

* Cllr Gill Campbell (Cllr Paddy Heneghan) – children and families

* Cllr Rishi Shori (Cllr Jane Black) – adult care, health and housing

* Cllr Jane Lewis (Cllr Joanne Columbine) – leisure, tourism and culture

* Cllr Sandra Walmsley (Cllr Tamoor Tariq) – communities and community safety

* Cllr Iain Gartside – without portfolio

* Cllr Tim Pickstone – without portfolio

Cllr Connolly said: “This restructure puts us in a good position to take the council forward through the many challenges we continue to face in providing the best services that we can for Bury residents. Having deputy cabinet members will also help the cabinet members to carry out their difficult and busy tasks, at no extra cost to the taxpayer.”
