Vital health messages on Bury Market

Shoppers can walk through a giant “inflatable bowel” when they visit Bury Market on Wednesday 13 March.

The unusual event has a serious message, to raise awareness of cancer, and is being supported by NHS staff and the Key 103 Street Team. They will be urging people to look out for four key signs of cancer and go to their GP if they have any of the symptoms.

The four symptoms are:

* Unexplained blood that doesn’t come from an obvious injury

* An unexplained lump

* Unexplained weight loss, which feels significant to you

* Any type of unexplained pain that doesn’t go away

The CAPED (Community Action to Promote Early Detection of cancer) team will urge people to go for screening when invited, such as breast screening, cervical screening and bowel cancer screening. At the market, visitors can walk through a large ‘inflatable bowel’ and find out the importance of having good bowel health in reducing the risk of cancer.
