IN THE WAKE OF MIB ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN TIGER.CO.UK ENCOURAGES DRIVERS TO SHOP AROUND TO SAVE MONEY ON CAR INSURANCE

The insurance industry has stepped in to pay in the region of £1million for a new advertising campaign encouraging motorists to take out Car Insurance a head of a new crackdown to address uninsured driving.

The campaign, which was launched in the break of 'Emmerdale Farm' last night, has been created to raise public awareness of the 'Continuous Insurance Enforcement Scheme' recently introduced by the government to tackle uninsured driving in the UK.

From the 20th of June this year if a vehicle is not registered as having a record of insurance on the Motor Insurance Database (MID), or has not been declared as being off the road by the completion of a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN), drivers will receive warning letters and face substantial penalties. It has also been announced by transport minister Mike Penning that the Department of Transport has been working with the Home Office to increase the fines charged for uninsured driving.

Uninsured drivers cause a substantial financial burden on other motorists. According to the Motor Insurers Bureau the damage caused in road traffic accidents involving uninsured parties results in claims and costs in the region of £380 million every year " equivalent to £30 of the cost of every insurance policy!

With the cost of car insurance on the increase in the UK the problem could become a growing issue as less people are able to afford to keep their vehicles on the road. For those under the age of 25 this is an even bigger problem as the risk profile of these individuals attracts a higher premium making it much more expensive to get insured.

A spokesperson for car insurance comparison site Tiger.co.uk said, "There are many ways for drivers to save money on their premium and still be legally covered to drive. We are regularly publishing information on our site to help motorists bring down the cost of their insurance, one of the more recent publications being a guide specifically for younger drivers. So it is well worth doing some research prior to buying insurance or, indeed, a car. Always use comparison sites like Tiger.co.uk to shop around for the best price as you will be matched to insurers who are best suited to your needs and do not be tempted to bend the truth in an attempt to get a cheaper quote as it may invalidate your policy if you ever need to make a claim. Insured drivers have no need to be concerned but our advice would be to log on to the MIB site to check that your vehicle details are recorded correctly".

To check that your vehicle details are registered correctly with the MIB go to http://ownvehicle.askmid.com and enter your vehicle registration details.
