Costa Celebrates Global Community Week in Stores Worldwide

As part of Costa’s Force for Good commitment to make a meaningful contribution to the customers and communities we serve, earlier this month Costa celebrated Global Community Week to showcase and share the fantastic work teams do in their local communities all over the world.

Incredible efforts from a global network of “Community Champions” meant that 19markets could coordinate community events of varying nature. Highlights from the week are as follows:

Whilst celebrating the launch of the first store in Vietnam, the team South East Asia team worked with a local school to plant crops in the school grounds. A local barista said: “We are very excited to be open and part of the community in Vietnam, working to make a positive contribution to the area as well as serving great coffee”.

The perfect Costa Cold Brew Coffee takes 20 hours to make 228ml. Costa’s MENA team set themselves a “Beat the Brew” challenge – a sponsored cycle/run which covered 228km in 20 hours. Working as a team of eight, taking turns in relays and swapping every 30 minutes, they hit their goal in 15 hours and finished the session having covered 456km. All sponsorship was directed to Dubai Cares, which provides primary education in developing countries.

Led by an in market Coffee Trainer and the Area Manager, the team in Saudi Arabia decided to donate blood to “bring life to others who need it”. This is the third time the Costa team have done this in the market.

Coffee grounds are a known fertiliser so in India the team decided to plant some trees, nourishing the ground with Costa’s famous Mocha Italia coffee grounds.

In the UK the second Costa Reading Week took place in over 500 stores nationwide in partnership with the National Literacy Trust, The Police Community Clubs of Great Britain and Keep Britain Tidy. Taking place in over 500 stores nationwide, the initiative is designed to spark children’s interest in reading, aiming to tackle low literacy levels across the UK.

Costa team Qatar launched a food drive and distributed over 250 bottles of water and 40kg of fruit to construction workers working nearby in 39 degree heat.

In Amman, Jordan 55 children are now more prepared for the season ahead thanks to seven Costa team members who collected and donated jackets, school bags and hats.

The Costa team in Khazakstan decided to treat the children of a local Shugyla charity to a great day out, taking them for breakfast in their local Costa before visiting the cinema and entertainment venues. The charity supports children from large families and over 50 kids were able to join in the fun.
