Costa Coffee chooses Leeds to open its first ‘Metropolitan’ outside London

• New Costa Metropolitan opens this Friday (30^th September)
• 20 jobs created
• Traditional London Bus arriving in Leeds on Thursday
• Kind-hearted locals raise enough money for new classroom

Costa Coffee is opening its first Metropolitan store outside London this week in the centre of Leeds.

The new look ‘Metropolitan’, which has created 20 new jobs in Leeds, has taken the capital by storm.  It’s a different style of Costa store which has been specifically created for City centre sites, giving a modern, urban feel and the first one outside London opens its doors at 133 Briggate, Leeds this Friday 30^th September at 8.00am.

To help celebrate its arrival, this Thursday 29^th September, Leeds City centre will welcome a bright red ‘metropolitan’ London bus which will be pulling up outside the store at 9.00am. Plus, Yorkshire’s newly crowned regional Barista of the Year finalist, Desmond Lea will be marking the occasion by producing his signature drink.

Manager of the new store Tom Harriwell commented: “We are all really excited to be getting the first Metropolitan store outside of London.  Leeds got the first Harvey Nichols outside London in 1996 and now it’s got the first Costa Metropolitan.  Customers will find it an ideal place to work, relax or enjoy a drink with friends.  It’s got a fresh, funky look with exposed brick and interesting lighting.  

"Costa is the UKs Favourite Coffee Shop brand and operates across 25 international markets. The opening of the Leeds Briggate store will be Costa's 2000th coffee shop. We can’t wait to open the store; we look forward to welcoming locals and commuters alike.” 

Costa will also be announcing that its kind-hearted customers in Yorkshire have raised enough

money to fund a classroom in one of Costa’s disadvantaged coffee growing communities.
